CARE MANUAL FOR YOUR RAINBOWS & SUGAR PIECES

Read the step-by-step instructions for preserving one of the most beautiful minerals that nature and humanity have placed before our eyes.

Noted almost exclusively for their beauty and positive visual impact, rainbows are among the most coveted gemstones for mineral enthusiasts. What we at Amethyst1 typically refer to as "rainbow" and "sugar" is technically a double crystallization. This means a layer of microcrystals forms on top of the amethyst crystals, while a thin layer of jasper adds its characteristic coloration between the layers of peaks. This is why we find such a wide variety of colors. Additionally, the colors in these pieces are due to different iron oxidations among other minerals present in the jasper.

These minerals, whether in the form of pieces or mini-pieces, require dedicated care from their owners, specifically for the peaks, if you want to maintain their characteristic color and shine. At Amethyst1, we offer a direct and specialized process that has been refined over many years for this particular product, so that they don’t require frequent maintenance. However, it’s always beneficial to clarify and emphasize this aspect to help you keep them in their best condition. Therefore, we outline a series of procedures to properly care for your rainbow(s).

Step-by-Step

For the preservation of your rainbows over time, it is recommended to perform the necessary care once a month.

First, you should apply liquid petroleum jelly—or any natural oil, light or low-density oil—using a brush on the peaks and polished edges, but without over-applying. Do this only to moisten the stone.

Next, let the petroleum jelly—or oil—sit for an hour so it can penetrate the natural micro-cracks and restore the color.

Finally, you need to wash your rainbows with neutral soap, preferably using a brush and plenty of water, and you’re done.

Important recommendation

For drying your pieces, do not place them under direct sunlight, and definitely avoid exposing them to the sun daily.
